What is the best way to insert a rectal tube?

I insert it the way I was taught in medical school, but some of my patients complain of discomfort. I know it isn’t the most comfortable procedure in the world. Just tell me the way that some of you do it so I can get the best idea on how to make it as comfortable as I can for my patients. I use them for enemas as they help to deliver the solution deeper into the colon so that they can get the best Colon Cleanse as possible.

You’re a little unclear in what you’re asking. Are you talking about a colon tube or just a rectal nozzle that is used for a regular enema? A colon tube is a much longer rubber tube that is made to go up past your rectum and deeper into the colon. The normal enema nozzle just goes into the rectum, no further. I’m not a nurse or doctor but I don’t know why a medical school would teach the usage of a colon tube for use on patients. I assumed that they were mainly used by people at home wanting to do a colon cleanse. Patients in hospitals are usually given enemas only for constipation.

If you are talking only about a rectal nozzle, perhaps one way to make it more comfortable would be to do a quick rectal exam before inserting the tube. I had a colonic once and the practitioner stuck the tip of her finger into my rectum before the speculum. I believe she said this was to determine where my rectum was situated so she could know what angle to put the speculum in.

If it’s put in at the right angle, you won’t be jabbing on any tissue or anything. Of course lube is necessary. Maybe you could lubricate the patient’s anus as well as the tube. Another thing the colonic practitioner did was tell me to take a deep breath and hold it while she inserted the speculum. Rectal insertion isn’t painful but some people believe it is. Again, I’m not a doctor but these are just some tips I can give you.
